ILS Instructor/Independent Living Facilitator/Direct Support Professional (Now Hiring!)
Are you a person who loves helping others to achieve their goals? Do you enjoy working in the community instead of behind a desk? Prefer to work one-on-one to train someone to be able to live on their own? BuildAbility’s mission is to create the space for individuals with disabilities to consider a life without limitations, then help them take the steps needed to make that life a possibility.
Current Opportunity:
We are looking for ILS Instructors to support participants enrolled in our Independent Living Services Program. The ILS Instructor works directly with the participant in their home or community to assist them with maintaining/developing the skills necessary for the client to live independently. This is a great opportunity for anyone seeking 20-25 hours per week and also for job seekers who only want to work part-time evenings and weekends.
Overview of ILS Instructor Position:

- Assisting participants in their homes with tasks such as budgeting, meal planning, hygiene practices, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Providing opportunities for the participant to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self-regulation/coping techniques.
- Providing hands-on training, observation, and evaluation of the participant’s household tasks and assisting with further development.
- Advocating for participants’ inclusion in the community and empowering them to exercise their rights.
- Use BuildAbility’s digital program to log the individual’s progress and performance.
To be successful in this role, you must have:

- Valid California Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance

Direct Support Professional/Mentor for Community-Based Day Program (Now Hiring!)
Are you a person who loves helping others to achieve their goals? Want to work with a small group of individuals to teach them how to navigate their community? BuildAbility’s mission is to create the space for individuals with disabilities to consider a life without limitations, then help them take the steps needed to make that life a possibility.
Current Opportunity:
We are looking for Direct Support Professionals/Mentors to support participants enrolled in our Community Integration Program (Quest). The Quest Mentor works directly with between 1-3 clients each day, helping them to navigate the community, explore their interests, participate in events/activities, and develop vocational skills. The Quest Program operates from 9:30am-2:30pm (5-hours per day).
Overview of Quest Mentor Position:
- Meeting participants at a community hub each morning, and facilitating the scheduled activities for the day, including the use of public transportation.
- Providing opportunities for the participants to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self-regulation/coping techniques.
- Providing hands-on training, observation, and evaluation of the participant’s pre-vocational skills, and finding educational opportunities or classes to assist with further development.
- Advocating for participants’ inclusion in the community and empowering them to exercise their rights.

We are looking for job coaches to help clients succeed at their places of employment. This is a great opportunity for anyone seeking 30-40 hours per week and also for job seekers who only want to work part-time evenings and weekends.
Overview of Position:
- Assists individuals at their workplace to complete tasks successfully
- Help the individual adjust to the workplace culture and help them to understand the workplace polices
- Provide hands-on training, observation, and evaluation of the individual’s work tasks to help them improve
- Develop a relationship with workplace supervisors to gain feedback on the individual’s performance and to help create a workplace environment that will maximize the individual’s success
- Use BuildAbility’s digital program to log the individual’s progress and performance
